Golden Lakes Charter School: 'We need to stay the course ...' -- April 6, 2010

Golden Lakes Charter School: ‘We need to stay the course ...’

Things can and do change rapidly, when starting something as complicated as a charter school that is dealing with two school districts and two counties.

According to latest information we have been able to obtain, Big Oak Flat-Groveland School District is, for all intents and purposes, closing Don Pedro High School.

We have been told they may have it open for independent study only.

Golden Lakes Charter will not be able to have our high school open by September of this year. Simply put, there is not enough time for everything to be completed and done correctly.

From September of 2010 to June of 2011, high school at Don Pedro will not be ideal.

Golden Lakes Charter School, with the help of local teachers and the guidance of three local existing charters will be able to provide educational requirements necessary for high school students to continue their educational requirements.

The Golden Lakes Charter School Board is exploring a number of different viable options to accomplish this goal.

We need not only the support of our high school students and parents, but the support of our grammar school parents and students. If you look at the bleak financial picture of both districts, they will have to take some drastic measures to remain solvent.

Take a look at what has occurred at the high school and draw your own conclusions as to what can occur at the grammar school.

In addition, I would like to point out that both schools are blessed with outstanding educators. We need our local teachers and they need the support of all of us, including Golden Lakes Charter School.

The future of education in the Lake Don Pedro area, beginning September of 2011, is bright.

We need to stay the course, accomplish one objective at a time, and move forward.
