While organization efforts continue, we are working on three fronts in the hope of running our school in the fall of 2010.
Our lawyer has sent a formal complaint to the Big Oak Flat-Groveland Unified School District. This complaint lists what we believe should be done so that our children may have the same educational opportunities as those children in Groveland.
This formal complaint must be filed before we can, if necessary, seek relief from the courts.
Because the federal laws and requirements are better defined, we are considering the federal court in Fresno.
We also are working very hard to obtain a K-12 charter from Mariposa or the Tuolumne County schools. This charter must be submitted to the state by Dec. 2 and approved by the June 2010 meeting of the State Board of Education.
This would give us the district charter for the 2010-00 school year. Without this, we will face the prospect of losing the high school.
The possibility of court action, we hope, will make it possible to better deal with Groveland.
While the SOS Board would like more time, we are forced to act now to meet the December 2 deadline.
A public meeting will be held at 6:30 pm on November 19 at the high school to report to the public and parents. We will also have a report on possible money requirements.
We need your help, so please come. Call 852-2316 or 852-0232 for information.
