Coulterville hosts 24th annual Coyote Howl

From last year's parade.

It’s time to howl!

This year’s Coulterville Coyote Howl parade will be full of hot cars, floats and much more. The parade starts the day’s fun off promptly at 10 am, so don’t be late!

The cars will then be on display at the old “Frosty” parking lot across from the park. Be sure and stop by and vote for your favorite!

This year there are so many vendors, with so much food and merchandise that they will be overflowing from the Coulterville park on to the adjacent street!

A gold mine of raffle prizes awaits, and winners need not be present!

Gift certificates from local merchants, fruit trees, quilts, afghans, throws, sleeping bags, household décor and a variety of “guy” stuff are waiting for you.

And be sure and add a 2009 Coyote T-shirt to your collection! Both regular T’s and ladies sleeveless styles are great looking and a great value at just $10.

Great vibes will fill the day and the night with the Coope De Lill Quartet rocking the park all day with great “Oldies” and the Blue Box Bayou Band heating up the night with sizzling Zydeco, blues and American roots dance music.

Coyote howls of the contestants practicing and then putting on their best performance add their own unique texture to the music.
The howling contest starts at 2:30 pm. Contestants can sign up all day until just before the contest gets started.

The three categories, adult, “pup” and “pup-pack” all have the same $5 entry fee. Cash prizes and winners’ names added to the “Howl of Fame” always lures a great bunch of coyote wannabes.

The day’s events are all free: free admission to the car show and to the park and ample free parking.

Tickets for the dinner dance are just $15 per person. They will be available in the park at the History Center booth, along with the raffle tickets.

The dinner dance gets started at 5:30 pm in the Coulter Café garden. A great meal and lively dancing is a perfect way to wind down a day of fun.

The Coyote Howl is organized by the Northern Mariposa County History Center, with all proceeds used to operate and maintain the private, non-profit Coulterville museum.

Start the weekend fun early. Sign up for the Mariposa Chamber Gold Rush Scramble golf tournament taking place May 15 at the Lake Don Pedro Golf & Country Club, or join the golfers for a great dinner. Proceeds benefit local firefighters and other Northside nonprofits.
