God's Word has advice on how to avoid wasting your life -- June 4, 2010 God’s Word has advice on how to avoid wasting your life

By Hans Frei, Pastor of LDP Baptist Church
September 1, 2010 – ©Foothill Express

Twice in the last few days I’ve hauled garbage, once to the transfer station right here in Don Pedro, and the other time I took my truck and trailer filled to the hilt to the Merced Dump (aka Merced Waste Disposal Site).

I remember the old dump outside my hometown of Heiningen. You took the Bezgenrieter Strasse and maybe a quarter of a mile past the town entrance, you turned right onto a dirt road. As kids we loved going there to throw rocks at rats and put empty aerosol cans into the ever-burning fires to watch them blow up. Besides, there were treasures to be found there.

Today it looks like a green pasture and you wouldn’t know that is was once a dump, except for the signs posted.

At the Don Pedro Transfer station over half my load was recyclables (I am all for recycling as well as producing less garbage). At the Merced dump most of my load was stuff from our recent fundraiser yard sale and stuff folks donate/dump (please do not drop off your old mattresses, stained, cat pee smelling couches, and old TVs and electronics at the church.

You’re not helping when you do. In fact you cause the preacher to be a whole lot less spiritual. I don’t drop off filthy, broken stuff at your house you have to pay to dispose of, do I? If you have good furniture and things someone can use please call us first).

Anyway, where was I? Right, at the Merced Solid Waste Site I was loaded with things that once cost a lot of money, things people at a time really wanted. Now, however they were merely useless yard sale leftovers.

Did you know that the biblical word for hell refers to the valley of Hinnom right outside ancient Jerusalem? Before it was used for a dump it was a place of vile pagan worship and rituals. It was there that children were sacrificed to Molech in a fiery ritual. Have you ever thought of the modern places where humans are sacrificed because of ideologies and religions?

Where do the babies torn asunder in abortions clinics get dumped? Where do they take the body parts of those blown to pieces by yet another bomb or bullet? Where do they dispose of the nameless enslaved, the oppressed who didn’t make it, the used up and expendable?

One of the items I took the dump I had confiscated at the yard sale. It was some electronic item with some “white trash” sticker on it. That’s how it is done, the wasting and dumping of human lives, you first dehumanize them, you reduce them to being just a fetus, an enemy, a group with a tag, a number, a statistic, … How much does greed and our insatiable thirst for stuff at a low price contribute to this?

Then of course I can waste, I can trash my life all on my own. Hell will be filled with people who have wasted their lives and the lives of others. All godless ideologies, all manmade religions, and everything godless will rot and burn for eternity in hell.

Maybe you’re wondering, “Who decides what is and isn’t a waste of life?” God does. Can I challenge you to find a Bible (God’s written word/revelation) and read Matthew chapter 24-25, and then commit yourself to not wasting your life or the lives of others.

To God be all glory, love you, Pastor Hans
